Law Student Hoping To Be A PD
A law student hoping to be a public defender has started a new blog. In medias res is written by “Clara S. Foltz” (the name of the first woman to become a lawyer on the West Coast, according to this article in Wikipedia). There are only a few posts so far, but it includes this line from the first post:
a 1L with high hopes of being a great PD
Go on over and say hi.

Clara S. Foltz wasn’t just one of the first women lawyers; she was one of the first advocates of the public defender system. She introduced the Foltz Public Defender Bill in the California legislature in 1892, though it wouldn’t get passed until 1921. She’s also credited with getting Los Angeles to establish the first-ever public defender office in 1914.
