Overheard in court

From public defender blogger Ipse Dixit, two gems:

Prosecution: Officer, what did your partner say about that?
PD: Objection; hearsay.
Court: People, any exception?
Prosecution: Yes (then silence for several uncomfortable seconds).
Court: And they would be?
Prosecution: Ummmm…ummmmm…ummmm…isn’t there an officer/partner exception?
Court: You don’t get to ask me to supply the law for your argument. And the answer is NO! Objection sustained.

Prosecution: Your honor, Public Defenders are inherently dishonest and you should punish them by denying to hear this motion!
