Former PD found with cocaine avoids prison time

A former public defender in Ada County convicted for cocaine possession will not have to spend any time in prison.

District Judge Kathryn Sticklen instead granted a withheld judgment yesterday in the case involving David Smethers, of Eagle.

Smethers, 55, pleaded guilty in July to a felony charge of possessing a controlled substance.

In court, he vowed never to go near drugs again and took responsibility for the mistakes in his life.
