Words escape me

From public defender blogger Ipse Dixit:

Here is the mind numbing conversation I had the other day with one of the prosecutor’s in my court:

Me: So who is trying that case? You?
Prosecutor: I think so.
Me: So, you’re gonna be the bad guy then, huh? Cool.
Prosecutor: What?
Me: Do you know that case? My client has an awesome defense and no jury will ever convict her (Seriously, it involves my client responding to a call from the police to come save her 5 year old. The jury is going to stone the prosecutor if this thing goes). You need to dismiss. I’m just saying.
Prosecutor: But why should I? What are you saying? That she broke the law, but she has an excuse so she shouldn’t get punished??!?!
Me: Um, yeah. It is called a legal necessity. You should look into it.
