I get that mothers get emotional about their child's welfare. They should. But I don't think they understand that attorneys cannot afford to get that emotional. They need to be able to focus and cover all their bases.

Yes, many attorneys have gotten in hot water by blogging about their jobs, but generally it's been for complaining about specific judges and prosecutors and mentioning information about specific clients that could be interpreted as violating privilege. Public Defender Revolution is doing something different by talking about the profession on a larger scale. It's important that public defenders (and private defense attorneys) can talk about the challenges of this work in an honest way and with the people who understand that they're talking about. If that sort of conversation gets bloggers in hot water, something is very wrong.

Actually, aren't a lot of attorneys getting themselves into some hot water these days by blogging about their experiences? Technically, so much of what they blog about in terms of their clients' cases is supposed to be more on the confidential side.

Jeez, I don't even know where to start with this one. I sorta liked his claim of self defense. That or, wait, sheer stupidity isn't a defense is it?
And why do these guys always feel need to give interviews?

I'm guessing the problem arises most often in smaller, probably more rural courts where PDs don't see deportable clients very often -- if the issue only lands on your plate once every year or two, it could be easy to forget about.

How could these PDs not already know this? And why in the world would they not discuss this with their clients before entering a plea?

After watching the trial of Mr. Roeder and the performance of his public defenders, I can say I have seen attorneys that I could trust with my life.

When the reporters and news media were humiliating Mr. Roeder, the defenders, especially Mr. Rudy, respected him. Anyone who can defend Mr. Roeder with such compassion deserves the respect of Medal of Honor winnders.
